To fix this (on Vista in my example) you need:
1) Go to Services, find Cisco service, logon tab, uncheck 'Interact with desktop' check box. Restart service. This will allow to start Cisco client service.
2) Set Everyone full control to %SystemRoot%System32vpnapi.dll. Run VPN client
ASA 5512x head-end - Anyconnect secure mobility client 4.4/4.5 auto-update problems
hello!
i apologize if this isn't the correct sub for this post, but figured i'd start here as this is related to Cisco tech!
I am wondering if anyone else is seeing issues with their remote endpoints failing to auto-upgrade their secure mobility client (SMC) when pushed from their ASA head-end.
in our case, it started when we put the version 4.4 client on our ASA to be pushed automatically to devices running out-dated SMC software. some devices updated perfectly, while some others appeared to download the update, but then failed during the installation phase. After the failure, the SMC client appears to completely uninstall itself. this is obviously a frustrating issue for our remote workers, and requires manual intervention to fix it.
To remedy the issue i have to first manually start the install via MSI, once the installer progress bar is up i then have to go into the vpncli.exe utility to manually connect to our head-end and download/enroll the users certificate. at that point we see a vpn adapter repair operation/message and a request to reboot.
once that repair message comes up, the MSI GUI completes the install successfully and after a reboot the vpn client works properly.
if i dont go into the cli utility, the MSI will fail during the install 100% of the time. this seems to only happen after an auto-upgrade has already failed on the device.
We were very limited on space for the cabinet so we had to get everything into 1 and that particular wall was an exterior so we couldn't install it recessed in any way. That should answer those questions before they're even asked. Any other comments welcomed though.
we just put SMC 4.5 on our ASA a few days ago, and this issue is rearing its head again, and im trying to find out what the heck is going on so i can put this one to bed so we dont have to deal with manually fixing/repairing the vpn adapters at every SMC update on every laptop we have.
Garfield: a tail of two kitties movie. at first i thought it was a permissions issue. i confirmed that even when making the user a local admin before beginning the update process doesnt help, so im back to scratching my head and google-fooing.
endpoint device is a surfacebook, windows 10 - 1703.
cheers in advance for any insight into this issue!
EDIT: digging through the anyconnect-win-4.5.01044-core-vpn-webdeploy-k9-install-16335318092017.log i see these errors right before the rollback begins. possible that the installer has been corrupted during download perhaps? <facedesk> makes sense since it appears to deal with the vpn virtual adapter installation.
